Harry Lime is a moniker i have used for many years, starting with a music project which became a band and most recently as an online poker player and forum administrator !
20 years ago, i had a french girlfriend that introduced me to a lot of great "chanson" including Brel, Piaf, Bresson and Gainsbourg. After that i lived in Paris for 4 and a half years and all my friends knew of my love of this style of music whether it be in French, English or any language for that matter. And yet somehow i missed out on Juliette Greco.
....and how exactly did i discover her ?
A couple of weeks ago, i watched a marvelous new film called "An Education" and in one of the scenes, our young heroine, who adores everything French, is seen listening to an old record with a cover lying by the player. This cover shows the picture of a cool young woman with the words above stating "Juliette Greco". The music sounded great and a few days later, i managed to find a 3 CD set of her old songs and i am now a confirmed fan.
There's also some wonderful footage, courtesy of Youtube, of her performing in the 60's and even last year, at the grand old age of 83. This woman was friends with such luminaries as Serge Gainsbourg, Miles Davis, Jean Cocteau and Jean-Paul Sartre whilst being a darling of the avant-garde scene.
Her voice was famously said to "encompasses millions of poems". Here's a small taste, i hope you like it.
.....oh, and i bought myself a second hand bike on Monday !!!
World Wide WebPosted by Harry Lime Tue, May 25, 2010 16:12:49 I've been working very hard on the Alternate Sports site this past few weeks with my main focus on writting a collection of reviews on sportsbooks that have featured on my site. It's a long, pain-staking business of checking out how things work, making sure all your details are correct and trying to give a balanced overview of your findings. Add a sprinkling of pictures and the odd banner or two and voila ....you are hopefully there. Of course, it doesn't stop there, as i need to update any changes in information in the future but at least the bulk of the work has been done.
The newsfeeds have also been refined and i'm really happy with the results. For most sports, there is a combination of 2 or 3 of the best reporting sites with headlines from each giving brief headings for each article. Clicking on a heading, takes you to the published area in a new window ...read it, close it and your back at Alternate Sports.
Lastly, there is now a live scores feature which comes direct from Expekt.com and has all the info and updates you could need.
Poker TalkPosted by Harry Lime Fri, April 02, 2010 12:30:20 I've now completed the split of Alternate Network sites so that each lies on it's own server. This means more space available for each and hopefully google will give me better rankings as i work up the SEO side of things.
I also have a new static banner set linking the 3 main sites which you can see below. I'll be making more themed sets and animated banners in the future for advertising and promotion purposes.

Not sure what happened but i had been warned that Latvia has some pretty random changes in temperature, and at the drop of a hat. Within one week, we have gained about 15 - 17 degrees to go from a snow bound winter into rather pleasent Sring weather.
Word is that i shouldn't get too comfortable with this and that snow and further cold times could well happen again before the summer really kicks in....

It's one of the older rooms on the Merge Network stable (Carbon Poker, Poker Nordica, etc) and my forum may well be having some games there in the coming months.
Odds & SodsPosted by Harry Lime Wed, February 17, 2010 13:11:39 Here was the scene outside Fontaine Hotel as of last week with the ice finally starting to break along the river. I've experienced my first time walking around in -25 conditions which even by Latvian standards (and definately mine), was cold for Liepaja.
The next picture was taken on the beach which is still completely covered with ice and snow. Very bleak but also beautiful !
